PC RECAP
Pugsli’s Spy Report 15. Journey into the Heart 2.
Mawag 30-Gahmil 6, 1521 TH Midland Trading Post
Boss,
We
returned to the Midland Trading Post and handed over Britham Boyhan to Gurt. As
a result of Britham’s supposed Throal connections, a messenger was sent to
Throal to confirm them and he was detained rather than executed. Nearly a third
of all trade to the Midland Trading Post came from Tansiarda, so Gurt cannot
afford to anger Throal.
Coga asked Gurt to help Granite restart the
Liferock Rebellion. Gurt refused the request. Coga was disappointed, but needs
to understand that Gurt’s finances have been devastated by the recent lack of
trade and that Theran spies are everywhere in northeastern Barsaive. Supporting
Granite could get Gurt killed and retired adventurers rarely wish to take such
risks. Gurt is simply in no position either financial or militarily to aid
Granite.

Gahmil 7-13, 1521 TH
Boss,
We
traveled from the Midland Trading Post to the Heart Wood Palace.
-P
Gahmil 14-20, 1521 TH Heart Wood Palace
Boss,
We were given 350 silver pieces for
successfully removing the obstacles to trade and given access to the library.
Noratu found out that the name of the first elven hero was the first elf,
Caynreth. The Heart Wood council gave us a second mission, 350 silver pieces
per delivery of messages to Gurt at the Midland Trading Post, Torgak at Haven,
and the council of dwarven magicians and engineers at Tansiarda. After
defeating a great form wood elemental, I figured that they were giving us an
easy mission with a high silver reward to make up for the relatively low cost
of the last mission. We accepted the mission of course. I’ve been having
trouble finding a Thief adept to train me of late.

Messengers for Hire
Gahmil 21-27, 1521 TH
Boss,
We
traveled from the Heart Wood Palace to the Midland Trading Post and delivered
the message to Gurt for 350 silver pieces. Noratu decided to carry the letters
to Haven and Tansiarda as well.
-P
Gahmil 28-Holiday 4, 1521 TH
Boss,
We traveled from the Midland Trading Post to
Haven and delivered the message to Torgak for 350 silver pieces.
-P
Holiday 5-Raquas 13, 1521 TH Haven
Boss,
Noratu researched information at Haven’s
libraries and information dealers. Coga asked Torgak if there were any missions
available. Torgak told us about a bounty mission for ork scorchers that were
recently troubling Haven. He offered 70 silver pieces for ork scorchers dead or
alive, payment on delivery of captured orks or dead orks. Torgak requested that
we capture the horses since he needed them for a new caravan to the Midland
Trading Post. Coga left with Laira
L’Zoril, Aylaa, and a human mercenary by the name of Zangetsu to hunt down the
ork scorchers as I left to try and find a Thief adept in Haven to train me
again. I’ve been having trouble finding a Thief adept to train me anywhere here
in northeastern Barsaive; I was hoping Haven at least would have one but no
luck. The group returned with six ork heads and six riding horses to collect
their bounty.
As of yet I have been unable to get any real
information about Zangetsu. All my sources of information point to him being a
mercenary who has been operating in Haven for a month or so who came up to
Haven on the Old Theran Road. He seems to be interested in Laira, for power or
for lust I have yet to ascertain. The two of them decided to enter Parlainth
looking for trouble. I left with them to keep an eye on Zangetsu. I don’t trust
him with Laira. Trouble found us in the form of a group of ogre mercenaries
working for Charcoalgrin. I’ve never seen the Unforgiveables this far out of
the Vault before or for that matter Unforgiveables with silver badges instead
of clay. The ogres called us trespassers in Charcoalgrin’s territory, and then
Laira attacked them with her blue blades of death. The ogre died, and his twin
appeared to avenge him. We fought off all seven of the ogre twins before
retreating to Haven. I suppose Charcoalgrin is now expanding out from the
Vaults since Twiceborn left. It looked like they were protecting a pit that
they found in the Smalls for some strange reason. I wonder why? But without the
rest of the group, going into the catacombs would be foolish.
Just before we left Haven, Noratu hired a
dwarf scribe Named Salishi to keep his appointments in exchange for a monthly
fee for his services and travel expenses and the rights to publish an adventure
log of our adventures. Zangetsu and Salishi went shopping for equipment, and
Salishi effortlessly coaxed out his story. Zangetsu is a mercenary from J’Pang
who has worked with the Therans all over J’Pang, Thera, and Barsaive while he
attempted to find his soulsword in their territories. He may be a Theran spy,
like that other Spirit Swordmaster Risudo. It seems I was right to keep an eye
on him. For the moment, Laira seems to have him on a tight leash, so I don’t
think he is an immediate threat.
-P
Response to Raquas 13, 1521 TH letter dated Raquas 30, 1521 TH
P,
Zangetsu
you say? My Landis informants tell me that he worked with the Therans picking
through the ruins of Vivane and more than likely was working with the Therans
at Haven picking through the ruins of Parlainth. Keep a close eye on that
Theran collaborator, and watch your back.
-R
Raquas 14-19, 1521 TH Old Theran Road
Boss,
We left Haven for the Midland Trading Post.
Bounty Hunters ambushed us on the road near the thick jungles near Parlainth.
They were after Laira G’nonsely aka Laira L’Zoril who had killed a high-ranking
Duke of Shosara. They were here to kill her and collect the bounty. The Bounty
Hunters told us to leave if we wanted to live, as this was no business of ours.
We refused. They attacked us with efficiency unseen in our foes recently. They
had elf Nethermancers counter the spells of Laira and Zangetsu, elf Warriors
and skeletons to take the brunt of our attacks, a deadly elf Woodsman or Archer
with a hunting dog and falcon targeting Laira and Falcos, and attendant
krilworms familiars that alerted the hidden Nethermancers if a foe approached.
All of a sudden, the Nethermancers went on the offensive and I felt my insides
scramble and then my ribs splinter. I fell to the ground dead after seeing a
hand flicker in the surrounding jungle. I woke up three days later. Salishi,
the dwarf scribe, used my last Chance Salve on me and saved my life. Noratu
used a spell to stop the opponent’s offensive spells, and they retreated to
hunt Laira another day after seeing the battle turn against them.
-P
Raquas 20, 1521 TH Midland Trading Post
Boss,
We arrived at the Midland Trading Post and
rested a day. The day of repose was necessary for me to make the second leg of
the journey to Tansiarda.
-P
Raquas 21-26, 1521 TH Old Theran Road
Boss,
Fortunately for me, we made our way through
the Caucavik Mountains without any trouble.
-P
Raquas 27, 1521 TH Tansiarda
Boss,
We arrived at Tansiarda and delivered the
message to the local council for our 350 silver pieces reward. They gave us
another message to deliver to the King of Throal, Neden, for them for 350 more
silver pieces. Since we are headed to Bartertown and Throal anyway, we agreed
to help them. We looked for a sturdy riverboat to get us to Darranis but were
unable to find one at the port. There is nothing else to do besides rest and
wait for a boat to return.
-P
Raquas 28, 1521 TH Tansiarda
Boss,
We went down to the docks and a couple of
barges and ferries had returned to port. But the busy port was suddenly
attacked as we approached. A creature of pure shadow struck out at a dwarf
barge, and plunged its head right through the people and boat. The ship’s crew
was left as desiccated dwarf corpses on a rotting barge. The remaining people
at the port fled in terror. The shadow leviathan seemed to talk to Aylaa
somehow, as we rushed to the docks to do battle with the creature. It was hard
to see the creature in the water. Laira sent her skeletons to operate the dwarf
dock controls. One of the skeletons was savagely attacked and went tumbling
into the briny depths. The other made it, but brought up a half-built dwarf
bridge instead, before pulling on a dam levee. As the flow of water receded, it
began easier to spot the creature and attack it. Although the creature fought
ferociously, severely wounding Aylaa’s ice flyer and giving Zangetsu a few good
hits, the power of our magician’s spells ripped him apart. Lightning strikes,
razor orbs, and foul blades eventually killed the creature.
We got the town counsel of Tansiarda to give
us free passage on another dwarf barge for our trouble. On the way to Darranis,
Noratu explained that Ristul sent the shadow leviathan, like the shadow kraken
he sent earlier on the Tylon River.
-P
Sollus 3, 1521 TH Darranis
Boss,
I
made some arrangements for some later training in Bartertown with the local
thief and pirate guild. Looks like I’ll finally get some training in soon.
-P
Sollus 6, 1521 TH Road to Bartertown, Plains
Boss,
An ebony ship of dark wood was firing its
fire cannons at a pursuing drakkar. The drakkar lit up in flames and started to
go aground, near us! We dodged the incoming airship, and returned to
investigate the crashed airship. Several Air Sailors had escaped major injury
by using their gliding abilities. It’s one of ours, R. We rushed to help douse
the flames and rescue the injured and then the dead for later burial, as well
as trying to get out as many supplies as possible. We managed to save
thirty-five of our men. They explained to us that they were pursuing a drakkar
that had attacked The Wandering Wayfarer. They snuck into the town in
the middle of the night, and firebombed the top of the inn. They had ork sky
raiders drop down into the inn and kill the guards, as well as a Nethermancer
who had deeply wounded Lilandra Silvertongue, the sole survivor and witness of
the attack. Since they had quickly scrambled to pursue the enemy, they had
little additional information. We are returning with the most injured airmen.
The rest we have left as a garrison to discourage scorchers from taking the
remaining ship parts. We returned to
Bartertown.

New Character Bios 14
Zangetsu (Robert Egli)
Race: Human
Discipline: Spirit Swordmaster
Circle: Seventh
Organization: None
Character Background: A son of J’Pang
nobility who rejected their cultural Discipline of the Samurai and became a
Spirit Swordmaster instead in secret at the monastery of Narai. His family for
this choice disowned him. He traveled all of J’Pang as a messenger and
mercenary searching for his soulsword but was unable to find it. Using the
wealth and Theran contacts he acquired in his years of searching J’Pang he
charted a flight aboard a Theran mining vedette to the Isle of Thera. He was
unable to find his soulsword there either, and made his way to Vivane aboard a
Theran military vedette in exchange for some contract work. He searched for his
soulsword in the ruins of Vivane by doing mercenary work for the Therans to
recover artifacts lost in the fall of Vivane. Using his experience in Vivane,
he left for Haven and attempted to do similar work there at Parlainth but found
himself at odds with the exploratory guilds operating there and made little
progress finding his soulsword even after several missions working for the
Therans. The group met him in Haven while doing a contract for Torgak. He met
Laira L’Zoril and was smitten with her power and beauty, leaving with the party
to explore the rest of Barsaive with them and hoping to find his soulsword.
Long-term Goals: Obtain his soulsword at any cost.
NPC CHARACTER BIOS 2
Salishi
Race: Dwarf
Profession: Scribe
Homeland: Throal
Organization: None
Organization: None
Passion: Chorrolis
Character Background: Salishi is a non-adept dwarf scribe hired by Noratu to keep his
appointments and to write the adventurer logs of the group. Originally from
Throal, he traveled to Haven looking for work. At Haven, he worked as a scribe
cataloging ancient texts recovered from Parlainth and recounting the tales of
adventurers who survived to make it back from Haven from Parlainth. He was
lured away from Haven by Noratu’s generous offer of 125 silver pieces monthly
and the rights to publish the group’s adventures. Salishi is
soft spoken and his demeanor tends to assist in getting people to open up to
him. Despite his garish fashion choices, his slouching body language and
deferential style tend to make him blend into the background as if he was part
of the room’s furnishings.
Long-term Goals: Make a tremendous amount of money by writing up the adventurer logs of
the group and acting as Noratu’s liaison.
Rules Update
