< WARNING SPOILERS FOR 50 FATHOMS AHEAD MATEY! ALSO A WARNING ABOUT SQUICK IN THIS RECAP. READ ON...IF YOU DARE!>

Day 187
PLACE: DUNICH, SPRITH
WEATHER: OVERCAST
TIME OF DAY: AFTER MIDNIGHT (approximately 1:00-3:00 A.M.)

The group ran down the road towards the Dunich Inn and the middle of town trying to reach the longboats...

At the pier, they saw one of the sailors standing watch and wondered where the other eight sailors were at.

Suddenly a tentacle emerged from the face of the sailor with the eye on the end of the stalk.
        "Captain I don't feel so good..."--Sailor

This caused everyone except Unk, Red Pirate Roberts, and Horventerous to run away. Then Unk realized that the sailor was the one who had died from a gunshot wound to the eye and was healed by a potion by Cyrus Black that had somehow regenerated his eye. Looking at a dead man walking, Unk ran in fear after the others.

       "I can't stop myself, I gotta eat!"--Sailor
The sailor turned around and ripped the jugular out of one of the sailors in the longboat.
Red Pirate Roberts shot at him but hit the bulwark of the longboat instead.
Horventerous ran and stabbed the sailor in the back with L'Espada de Vampiro and his body slumped over the dead sailor. Horventerous investigated the boat and found that the planks had been pried and that the sailors had been all stabbed with a black ichor in the bottom of the boat that was a mixture of blood and water.
Horventerous checked for vital signs and found that the sailors were still alive. Horventerous and Red Pirate Roberts got the unconscious sailors out of the longboat.
Unk returned and helped get the sailors out the longboat and then checked the second longboat, finding it also had its planks pried and was taking on water. Unk also noticed shapes swimming in the water including a large shadow. Unk decided to run back towards the rest of the group in the town in Dunich.

Meanwhile, the running sailors and Suzu reversed course back to the pier, seeing the shuffling remaining citizens of Dunich heading towards them. Unk tried to stop them, but they ran past him except for Smithers who would stand with him if he wanted to make a stand here. But with twenty-five townsfolk ambling towards them, Unk and Smithers turned tail and ran after Suzu and the rest of the sailors.
Horventerous had loaded a bunch of the sailors on a cart while Red Pirate Roberts had proceeded down the pier and found a couple of fishing boats that had not been sabotaged yet.
Unk grabbed the front of the cart while Suzu pushed with Horventerous from the back, and moved the unconscious four sailors and the cart slowly towards the boats. Smithers and other sailors grabbed other unconscious sailors as they headed towards the dinghies on the other side of the pier.

Unk and Suzu decided the cart was too slow, so they grabbed unconscious sailors out of the cart and ran. Horventerous wasn't fast enough to withdraw and the half-octopons started attacking him as he was left to defend the last unconscious man in the cart. Horventerous used the last of his water magic to kill a group of them, but they just kept coming.
Sailors ran for the dinghy and Red Pirate Roberts was attacked by two skulking octopons. One of them spat ink in her eyes and blinded her while the other one stabbed her with his rusty dagger that glanced off her armor.

Unk dropped the two sailors he was carrying to fight the octopons attacking Red Pirate Roberts. He killed one and distracted the other one long enough for her to run towards the fishing boat and trip on the pier. Her sailors caught her and pulled her into the boat. She cupped her hands and plunged them into the water. She splashed the water onto her face to wash the ink from her eyes.

Horventerous used his devil's eye to make one of the half-octopons run away and then brandished his scepter of fire to shoot bolts of fire at them. They just kept coming and were even trying to crawl into the cart to get at the unconscious sailor. Horventerous used his scepter of fire to clear a path and grabbed the unconscious sailor. When he hit the water of the bay, he started swimming for the other side of the pier. The sailor woke up suddenly when he hit the water and swam after Horventerous.

[Andrew played Flesh Wound.]

A sphere of inky blackness surrounded them and they blindly swam to shore. Horventerous took a shot while he was blinded but his bone armor absorbed the impact. Using water near the shoreline they washed off the ink from their faces.
They saw Unk, who had defeated the other octopon and had rushed back to block the bridge, holding the line against the half-octopons while bleeding from two wounds in the abdomen.

Suzu ran onto the ship, pushing one of the sailors out of her way to make room.
With the fishing ship full of sailors and Suzu, Red Pirate Roberts managed to sail it past the outstretched tentacles of a giant octopus and a wooden shard of the Pough that was being used as a ram by the octopons.

Meanwhile Smithers and another couple of sailors had made it to the second fishing boat with two unconscious sailors. A couple of octopons came out of the water and started attacking the sailors. Smithers and a sailor managed to defeat them but only after they had killed another sailor.

Horventerous used his Scepter of Fire and L'Espada de Vampiro to kill half-octopons while Unk and the sailor used their blades to slash them down. With the half-octopons defeated, they picked up the couple of unconscious sailors on the shoreline and made their way to the fishing boat.

Smithers managed to get them out of the reach of the tentacles of the giant octopus, but the remaining octopons rammed their boat with a piece of flotsam from the Pough. The giant octopus stretched out its tentacles again, but barely connected enough to rock the vessel. Smithers prevented the boat from turning over.

The octopons climbed on the boat while the octopon warlock cast dark spheres of energy at the Smithers, Horventerous, and Unk. Smithers keeled over into the water. Sharks swarmed to him.

Cannon fire from La Arcadia blew up the giant octopus into chunks of meat drawing sharks towards the chum.

Unk fought off the two octopons at the rear of the ship, but was barely holding on with another bleeding wound to the right leg from an octopon's slash.
Horventerous tried to use his devil's eye to make the octopon warlock run away, but the warlock's will was too strong for Horventerous in his heavily wounded state.
A sailor shot at the octopon warlock, but dark winds seemed to appear and deflect the bullet away.
With his octopon warriors dead, the octopon warlock fired a large blast of dark energy which struck the fishing boat but the energy seemed to dissipate quickly and harmed no one. Frustrated, the exhausted octopon warlock fled.

[The octopon warlock was out of power points and reinforcements. So he left to fight another day with fresh spells, a new giant octopus, and more octopons later. Not to mention, you know, escape from the sharks.]
