CHAPTER 4: A FRIEND INDEED
The Moondancer sailed to the Rock of Bral where the group long rested in the docks. Captain Elaina Sartell directed the party to find Commodore Krux at a tavern called the Happy Beholder. She said she would be busy selling the gifts that Traevus had given them in order to get money to repair damage to the hull of The Moondancer and to the ballistae, install the mangonel, and purchase ammo for the mangonel, as well as provisions and water. Captain Elaina Sartell distributed 50 gold to crew, 20 gp for former crew, and 10 gp to refugee families. The 54 citizens of Waterdeep that the group had saved disembarked at the safety of the Rock of Bral after thanking the group.
[Note that 3 citizens died and 3 joined the crew (A neutral, chaotic, and evil aligned one).]
WuKong tried to figure out the mystery of the star chart he found in The Ebonsnare. Lost trying to find a lead in town, he asked Flapjack the Flumph who turned a purple-black color. He told WuKong that it led to the Neogi pirate homeworld, deep in the Far Realm.
Nebun bought five healing potions at the magic shop and a basic poison vial in a broken shack stall from a vendor who whispered, “Ozamata is watching”, perhaps a warning to watch who you use the poison on or else...
Tamayo learned that the amulet was cursed with wild magic and would emit a burst of chaos magic when used. The curse could be removed but would destroy the amulet. The shopkeeper even theorized that the amulet wouldn’t really be destroyed; it would simply appear elsewhere at random. He suggested going to the temple to get it removed.
P40-X wandered far from low town into
middle town and ran into a puppet show at the Juggler’s Folk Guildhouse. In the
play, Prince Andru was opposed by four Underbarons who looked like a human,
halfling, jester, and a cloaked figure. She paid 2 sp for the show. She
returned to low town and got a taxidermist to stuff her Quaggoth head for 50
gp.
The group sold their gems for 50 gp
each.
After that, the group made their way to The Happy Beholder. Large Luigi, a Beholder, served a couple of lagers and champagne to the group as they sat down to talk with Commodore Krux. Commodore Krux listened to their tale with great interest and asked them to join him for a more private conversation on his ship, The Second Wind.
However when they entered the alleyway, four Astral Elves leapt out to attack. Their swords and arrows had a green radiant glow. Commoners screamed in fear as Prince Andru’s guards leaned against walls doing nothing to help or hinder either side.
Nebun cast Spike Growth. P40-X used Hunter’s Mark and then fired her pistol and struck an Astral Elf. The Astral Elves placed their swords in their scabbards and brought out their bows. WuKong tossed two darts at an Astral Elf with one hitting while summoning his Astral Arms. Tamayo cast Witchbolt to shocking effect on an Astral Elf. Commodore Krux fired his musket twice but missed.
Nebun dropped concentration of Spike Growth to cast Wind Wall dealing damage to all the Astral Elves. P40-X charged into the wall of wind and used a chain to kill an Astral Elf and whip him into another one, knocking them back 5 feet and making them prone. The Astral Elf got back up and fired his longbow twice at P40-X, but the arrows went harmless up into the wall of wind. The other Astral Elves saw this and stowed their longbows and drew their long swords again. WuKong rushed in and proceeded to pummel an Astral Elf with a Flurry of Blows. Tamayo tried to make her Witchbolt move to a new target, but it dissipated harmlessly into the wall of wind. Commodore Krux fired his musket twice into the wall of wind with the bullets being harmlessly sucked up into the air.
Nebun cast Guiding Bolt but it missed. P40-X dropped her chain and drew her rapier. She moved her Hunter’s Mark to a new target and thrust twice with her rapier. The Astral Elf was hit twice and teetered on the edge of consciousness. The Astral Elves struck with their long swords dealing damage to P40-X and WuKong. The other Astral Elf stowed their longbow and drew their long sword again. WuKong missed his attack badly and stumbled, falling to the ground in the wall of wind. He got back up and knocked out the Astral Elf. Tamayo cast Firebolt and hit an Astral Elf for good damage, the wall of wind seemingly fueling the flames. Commodore Krux stowed his musket and drew out his long sword.
Nebun cast Sacred Flame but the Astral Elf dodged out of the way nimbly. P40-X moved her Hunter’s Mark to a new target but missed her two rapier attacks. The Astral Elf missed P40-X but the other one slashed a critical hit into WuKong’s torso that he only partially dodged out of the way using his Hadozee Resilience. WuKong unleashed a Flurry of Blows as he was fighting for his life and dropped one of the Astral Elves. Then Tamayo burnt WuKong with a Firebolt that missed badly. Commodore Krux ran up to the Wind Wall and used his offhand to feel what was happening in front of him.
Nebun dropped the Wind Wall and tried to
fire his crossbow at an Astral Elf but missed. P40-X moved her Hunter’s Mark to
a new target and struck them for good damage with the Wind Wall down and no
longer blocking her fairy swarm. The last Astral Elf slashed WuKong and left
him near swooning. WuKong disengaged and ran to Nebun to ask for healing.
Tamayo cast Firebolt and burnt the last Astral Elf severely. Finally Commodore
Krux came into the fray and slashed the last Astral Elf down.
Nebun healed WuKong with a Potion of
Healing and a Cure Wounds spell. They grabbed 10 gp each and headed for the
docks.
With the Astral Elves trying to chase them down, the group decided to bring Commodore Krux to The Moondancer rather than The Second Wind. Captain Elaina Sartell had Flapjack the Flumph navigate them out of the docks of the Rock of Bral and into Wildspace. Commodore Krux told them about an alliance in Doomspace forming to fight the Xarxyian Empire. He didn’t know how to get to Doomspace, but his friend Topolah could get them there. So the group headed to the asteroids at the outskirts of the system. The group had a short rest. In her room, P40-X saw the stuffed head of the Quaggoth. They then noticed a new ship chasing them that glowed with pink bioluminescent energy…
