Day 269
PLACE: TULAGO, CUWAYO
WEATHER: OVERCAST

After dropping anchor, Captain Red Pirate Roberts manned a cannon and bombarded the shoreline of Tulago. Red Pirate Roberts, Horventerous, Kahoola, and 21 sailors entered the longboats and sailed to the beach while Horventerous cast blast on the beachhead.

After they landed, the group was ambushed by pirates hiding in the brush, causing four sailors to fall.

Horventerous stabbed one of the pirates with La Espada de Vampiro and drained his life force, filling Horventerous with strength. The other eight pirates were quickly defeated by the group and the superior numbers of the sailors on the beach.
Kahoola entered a narrow canyon. A shot whizzed by her head and she took cover in the brush.  The sailors rushed through the canyon towards the main gate of Tulago. Horventerous blasted three of the pirates shooting at them with muskets on top of a wooden rampart next to the palisade surrounding the town.

Kahoola ran to the palisade, but couldn't climb it. Horventerous blasted a few more pirates on the rampart. The sailors surged forward but found the gate closed, with pirates waiting behind the gate.

[Ellen played Here Comes the Cavalry.]

Suddenly, six villagers appeared from the woods. They screamed out, "For Tulago!" Two of them carried a ladder to the palisade wall and the other four used a battering ram to break down the village gates.

Kahoola clambered up the ladder and found she couldn't reach a pirate in the corner, so she picked up a barrel and hit him with it. The lid flew off and revealed it was a barrel of gunpowder! Horventerous and a sailor used the ladder to get on top of the rampart.

Kahoola hit the other remaining sailor with her barrel of gunpowder, which knocked him off the rampart and impaled him on a wooden stake. Horventerous used his scepter of fire to cast three fire bolts at three of the pirates.

Unfortunately, too many sailors got on the ladder (ending their turns on the ladder and nobody secured it at the top) and the villagers could not hold on. Two sailors on the ladder dropped on the villagers, knocking out one sailor and villager and leaving the other two on the ground prone. The ladder flipped over, hit the heads of a couple sailors and knocked them to the ground. The other sailors rushed into the village and fought pirates at the front gates.  Kahoola hit a third pirate with the barrel of gunpowder. This time, she rolled up on damage with an ace, and the gunpowder exploded, blowing up the barrel, incinerating the pirate, and leaving Kahoola's shell blackened. A pirate shot Horventerous in the leg and he almost fell off the rampart.

[Andrew played Parley.]

Horventerous attempted to persuade them to hand the Prince over. Of course, the pirates were at Hostile/Enemy level with the destruction of 6 of their 7 ships and so many of their fellows dead on the beach and in Tulago. The pirates offered the Prince for a ransom of 9,000 pieces of eight. Horventerous tried to tell them about a treasure map to a treasure in Torath Ka. The negotiations were not fruitful.

"Torath-Ka?! We don't even have a ship left in the harbor to get there! Who would want to face giant monsters and savages for a chance at booty anyway?"--Pirate Leader

[Meanwhile, while Horventerous napped and during the time it took to invade the harbor and Tulago, and parley, L'Ollonaise had his wounded brigantine drop anchor and he had to return to Tulago overland traveling west towards the east side of town.]

Suddenly, L'Ollonaise appeared with an entourage of pirates. In a shocking display, he shot the pirate who had tried to negotiate with the group in the back and declared that the ransom was now 18,000 pieces of eight. The other pirates looked at L'Ollonaise with gaping jaws. It was suddenly apparent that L'Ollonaise's reputation for cruelty was well earned. Perhaps the pirates had not yet surrendered because they were more afraid of L'Ollonaise than even the group?

The group now had a hard time of it. L'Ollonaise was a master of tactics and had his pirates take over the choke points in town to prevent them to get towards the prison where the Prince was held. Red Pirate Roberts and her men fought at the gate with other sailors trying to overrun the two choke points. Finally engaged in the battle at the gates, Red Pirate Roberts managed to shoot down four of the pirates herself.
Horventerous used his devil's eye to clear away the pirates in front of Kahoola. Kahoola charged at L'Ollonaise, nicking his throat with her pincer.

"Hey Dijonnaise! I am going to cut you up and feed you to the sharks!"--Kahoola
"I will boil you and then mange upon your coeur, crab."--L'Ollonaise

L'Ollonaise drank a potion and his neck wound disappeared.

"There is nothing you can do that I cannot undo, crab."--L'Ollonaise

A fierce melee between L'Ollonaise and Kahoola left her bleeding and her shell cracked open. She bled out before Horventerous could save her. In a rage, Horventerous focused all his remaining power into a focused rain of bolts that ripped into L'Ollonaise's neck and decapitated him while killing two of the remaining pirates. With L'Ollonaise dead, the pirates surrendered and gave the group L'Ollonaise's body and the Prince.
Prince Alain Amemnus had bad news for the group. He had been taken prisoner by L'Ollonaise and his sword had been taken and given to the dread pirate Blackbeard as tribute.

Thank you Horventerous and Captain Red Pirate Roberts! But your Sword is on another Ship!

Horventerous looted L'Ollonaise finding a treasure map hidden in his coat pocket. The remaining villagers of Tulago decided to join the crew of La Arcadia with nothing remaining for them here in the partial ruins of Tulago. Angered by the death of Kahoola, Horventerous dismembered him and threw his body parts into Tulago's bay to feed him to the sharks as Kahoola's last wish.

MAPS

Longboats (and a boat I used to represent the wreckage of a brigantine) are from DramaScape's Above Decks PWYW.

To create the harbor with cliffs for Tulago I used DramaScape's River Landing with the water print outs from DramaScape's River Barge to create a bay rather than a river.

For Tulago itself, I used DramaScape's Saxon Village No Overlay print on demand map with some additions from DramaScape's Celtic Village 6 x 6 Tiles.
