Necessary Evil Recap 36: Finale

December 15, 2018 @ 2:30 P.M. - 6:30 P.M.

<WARNING FINAL PLOT POINT SPOILERS FOR NECESSARY EVIL! >

Before Game Setup:

DramaScape's The Core is used for the interior of The Overmind's Man O' War Flagship.

Thursday January 18, 2005
The Overmind's Man O' War Flagship

As the Omegans teleported inside the ship, The Overmind reached out to them with his mind, scanning their psyches while the ship's AI scanned their physical bodies. The mental and physical schematics were sent to 3d printers. Then V'sori scientists printed out plastic and machine body copies of the supervillains. Ruin was turned into four different clones based on his human and elemental forms! They even printed copies of The Blood King with a Wheeljack clone inside and two mechanical junkyard dogs!

[I changed this from the concept of ID clone duplicates in the Necessary Evil book. Rather than just one clone, I had the V'sori scientists load toner (Metal and plastic) for a full round after printing. Then in rounds 2, 4, etc. they made more clones which made the scenario more difficult for the Omegans. To stop the cloning, they needed do one of three things: kill the V'sori scientist controlling the machines, break the printers, or break the computers. I also made four clones of Ruin which were all like 10 power point individual villains. I also copied their sidekicks and minions.]

The Junkyard Dog and her dogs exchanged fire with her clone and her dogs.
Ruin's clones surged forward and his Wind Form clone taunted him, "First we will kill you and then everyone else!"
Ruin glared at the clone with steely eyes.

[Kevin played Face Off to block the Taunt.]

Bubbles ran towards the force field and fired her Vibro Saw but it seemed to be ineffective.
Bubble's clone ran in front of her and taunted, "You are about to become one with The Overmind. Rejoice!" But her taunt and attempted mind control failed.
The Overmind's bodyguards were a combination of V'sori and K'tharen DNA. Their blue-green skin wrinkled and thin lips parted in a smile showing wicked rows of teeth as they approached and flanked Bubbles on the left and right. They slashed with their Vibro Swords. One of them struck her but interacted with her Energy Knife, shorting out the Energy Knife and Vibro Sword.

[Chessie played Lucky Break]

The Blood King fired and killed the Wind Form and True Form Ruin's clones. The Blood King clone fired at The Blood King but Wheeljack prevented it from going out of control.

Ruin ran near the computers and dropped his grenade belt. Ruin changed into his Wind Form and summoned a storm outside. An ion storm hit, causing turbulence.

[Think Star Trek when the ship shakes. Only characters with the Steady Hands edge were not affected by a -2 penalty on Agility-based Trait rolls.]

V'sori scientists scrambled to load more metal and plastic and start another clone print job.
The Overmind began to integrate with a gigantic metal body.

The Junkyard Dog's minions blew up their cyberdog counterparts with their mouth fusion rifles. The Junkyard Dog animated the metal remnants to make more dogs.  She ran at The Blood King clone and punched its legs off. A prone Wheeljack pilot was then smashed by her foot.

[Bobbie played Crushing Blow to knock down the robot clone with 37 x 2 = 74 damage!]

The Junkyard Dog clone taunted, "I'll do to you what you did to my dogs!" The clone's punch crushed her animated dog, a second punch and a kick left The Junkyard Dog swaying with bruised ribs.

[Bobbie played Second Wind with Destiny's Child to survive the combo, removing three wounds from the second hit.]

Bubbles used her Vibro Saw to slash in a circle, killing her clone and the Overmind's two bodyguards. Then she slashed at the force field, causing minor damage.

[Chessie spent a Bennie to play Get Savage for Improved Sweep.]

The Fire Form Ruin clone taunted, "Fire feeds on Wind!" It tossed two fireballs at him but Ruin avoided them. The Earth Form Ruin clone taunted "Earth will bury Air!" but couldn't reach him to strike in melee.
The Blood King shot a V'sori scientist and used its tail to destroy a printer.
The V'sori scientists reprinted the cybernetic dogs, The Blood King clone but without a Wheeljack pilot, and True Form and Wind Form Ruin clones. The Bubbles printer was destroyed so a second Bubbles was not created.

[I also made a stipulation that only one clone could exist at a time, so only defeated clones could be reprinted. Sort of like the Duplicate power in a way.]

The Overmind continued to integrate with the robot.

The Junkyard Dog used her power to form a massive metal dog from the remains of The Blood King clone then she crushed her clone with a three-hit combo. Her cyberdogs moved forward but didn't have a clear shot.

The cyberdog clones fired at The Junkyard Dog. Their fusion rifle shots left her armor melted and smoke pouring out her chest. Broken and defeated, she fell over and her animated object dog fell apart, burying her.

Ruin turned into his fire form and grabbed hold of a pillar. He sent a fireball at his grenade stash and it exploded. The explosion destroyed two printers, two computers, two V'sori scientists, and one of the cyberdog clones. He sent a fireball with his other hand at his Fire Form clone and his more intense fire somehow managed to melt the clone.
Bubbles smashed through the force field and hit the platform the gargantuan mech was on twice. Then she was shocked as the force field went back up behind her.

[Another little thing I did to increase the difficulty was a regenerating force field.]

The Blood King fired on its clone but couldn't get through its armor. The Blood King's tail smashed a V'sori scientist into the concrete wall. The Blood King's clone fired but also couldn't pierce The Blood King's armor.
The surviving V'sori scientists scrambled to load more metal and plastic and start another clone print job.
The Overmind continued to integrate with the machine body but something seemed wrong with the transition...

Bubbles touched the V'sori console and turned off the force field. Then the console exploded as it was touched by non-V'sori hands but somehow Bubbles was unharmed. Bubbles slashed at the platform a second time before running away behind a pillar and The Blood King.
The Junkyard Dog's cyberdogs moved forward and killed the last enemy cyberdog while leaving an Earth Form Ruin clone chipped but not defeated.

The Blood King fired against its clone. Bubbles barely dodged out of the way of friendly fire but the other shots managed to blow up the Blood King clone.

[Randall played Teamwork to add a bonus to his action and Bubble's next action.]

Ruin moved back out of the range of his clones while changing to his wind form and starting to summon whirlwind.  Ruin's Earth Form clone couldn't Unshake so took cover behind a pillar while the True Form Ruin clone moved forward and joined him.
The Overmind finally integrated with the gargantuan machine body to become The Robot Overmind. It ripped the walls off of the chamber to get into the main room.

[Randall played Villainous Verbosity with Destiny's Child.]

The Robot Overmind screamed out due to the partially failed transformation," I will kill you all. I will bombard your beloved Earth leaving only Star City remaining as your species' tombstone."

Bubbles ran at The Robot Overmind and went for the brain connections. Using everything she had she barely managed to shake the monstrosity.
Ruin dropped the Whirlwind and used his wind form to rush and strike down the last V'sori scientist to prevent any more Ruin clones from being created. Ruin's clones turned around and went after him. The True Form Ruin clone taunted him saying, "Tell our father I will complete our mission in your stead." Then he slashed at Ruin with his replica katana and Vibro Saw.

[Kevin played You Have To Do Better Than That to prevent the katana from hitting.]

The Junkyard Dog's cyberdogs shot and killed the Earth Form Ruin clone.
The Blood King fired on The Robot Overmind but couldn't get through its armor. It smashed the 3d printer with its tail.

The Robot Overmind was in a berserk rage and slashed at Bubbles with its robot claws but Bubbles dodged one with super speed and took a gut hit that left her winded.

Bubbles recovered and slashed at the brain of The Robot Overmind.  With her Vibro Saw she severed the three nerve connections and removed the brain with her hands, blowing a bubble in triumph, as the armored shell fell.

[Kevin played Deja Vu with Destiny's Child to get Deadly Blow out to double Chessie's damage of 39 x 2 =78!]

The True Form Ruin Clone held its hands to its ears screeching in pain, as Ruin sliced him in half with his katana saying, "Say hello to dad."

With the V'sori Overmind defeated, the Omegans took over The Overmind's Man O' War flagship. Wheeljack sent out V'sori Mantas to strike the rest of the V'sori fleet, cutting a path for the Man O' War to land on the V'sori homeworld and start their own invasion of the V'sori Empire!

[End of Campaign]

Maps

DramaScape's The Core is used for The Overmind's Man O' War Flagship. The Core is perfect for this scenario. The Core itself has a blue hex area that can represent the Overmind's force field and the machine core can represent the chamber where The Overmind is integrating with the gargantuan robot body for The Omega Contingency. It is also a long but not wide map; even my speedster needed two rounds to get to the back of the map. This gives the boss some time to get the five rounds in to get the transformation done.

Miniatures

Figures and vehicles include those from HeroClix by WizKids and Necessary Evil Figure Flats by Pinnacle Entertainment Group. Small machines used are print-outs from DramaScape's Modular Rocketship. Gold Robot Mech used for The Robot Overmind is from Interface Zero 2.0 Iconic Figure Flats.

Necessary Evil Recap 35: Moonquake!

September 8, 2018 @ 3:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M.

<WARNING THREE MAJOR PLOT POINT SPOILERS FOR NECESSARY EVIL! >

Before Game Setup:

I placed down a couple V'sori Mbunas for the shuttles and the starship fighter from DramaScape's The Partisan Passenger Version on DramaScape's Star Map print on demand for the V'sori Manta.  Star Map and Star Map 02 are really good for large-scale space battles or just good background for small-scale battles happening in space.

Thursday January 18, 2005
Space en route to Earth

Wheeljack did a 180 degree turn and The Blood King shot at the V'sori Manta, resulting in some chassis damage. The V'sori Manta fired a missile at their shuttle but it veered away as Wheeljack successful deployed some chaff.

Their allies lost control of their shuttle and drifted towards them but Wheeljack managed to get their shuttle out of the way just in time.

Wheeljack maneuvered their shuttle around the obstacle of the other shuttle and The Blood King's second laser volley blew up the V'sori Manta. The Omegans left the other shuttle adrift in space as it floated towards the V'sori Man O' War...

The group saw Dr. Destruction on an exclusive Channel 8 TV news interview with Sam Ramey as they approached Earth and listened to his speech. He had sent the Atlantean legion through the teleportation tubes to cause havoc by attacking the V'sori inside their own battle fleet's ships.  But suddenly there was a massive thundering sound, then a cloud of dust, as the camera turned ninety degrees and then smashed into the ground and shattered. The broadcast signal cut out.

[Chessie played Here I Come to Save the Day to make the shuttle move very fast to Downtown, Star City.]

Thursday January 18, 2005
Downtown, Star City

The Omegans landed the shuttle in Downtown, Star City. They watched as Dr. Destruction was grabbed by Champion and then body slammed into the middle of the street making a massive crater. Only Champion left the crater and flew into the sky. No longer a blur, they could see that Champion was gone. Only a V'sori drone of thinning hair, wires and tubing along the neck and spine, and green mottled skin remained, but with his powers somehow intact. Not even planetary bombardment had been able to destroy Champion's body, so the V'sori had rebuilt him from his remains.  All around them the V'sori and Fins were fighting the remnants of the Omegan Resistance: Needlenose with dregs and the Junkyard Dog's other cyber dogs, Phantom Gangers, Undergrounders, The American Anvil and The Hammer of Justice, 4-Star and Lucky, and others fighting unseen like Micro and B-HOLD-R.

Due to her Claustrophobia Hindrance, Bubbles ran screaming out of the shuttle and used her rocket boots to get as far from the shuttle as possible in a panic. Unfortunately this put her very near Champion. The Blood King left the shuttle and grew to maximum walker size as Wheeljack teleported inside. Ruin got out of the shuttle and laughed in glee at Dr. Destruction's defeat. Dr. Aden got out of the shuttle and stumbled backwards as he craned his neck up at Champion. The Junkyard Dog moved towards Champion as she animated a police car and tried to ramp it up at Champion.  The car ended up in the crater and nearly hit Dr. Destruction. Her cyberdogs, Ash and Cinder followed her. Champion turned his eyes towards Bubbles and spoke, "I will kill all other heroes and villains and become the only survivor on Earth with super powers!"

 [Bobbie played Villainous Verbosity.]

Champion shot his laser eyes at Bubbles and she managed to deflect it with her sai before it melted to slag forcing her to drop it from the heat. He then did a torpedo attack that hit her into a skyscraper before he flew back up into the sky.

[Chessie played Lucky Break + a Bennie to stop the damage from the laser eyes. She played Second Wind + Bennie on the second attack, but ended up Shaken from the Knockback]

The Junkyard Dog noticed that the wiring on Champion might be a weakness.  She yelled it at Bubbles but it was actually heard by Ruin and relayed to her via telepathy. She moved the police car out of the crater and continued moving towards Champion with Ash and Cinder behind her.

[Bobbie played Unexpected Insight. So I told her that the wires might be a weak point which makes sense for her character (or Kevin's Ruin) since she knows a lot about machines. If Randall had played this card, I would have told him about the Gamma Ray weakness (since he is a comic buff and his former character Mongo was a gamma ray created character). If Chessie or David had played it I would have mentioned a possible psychic weakness.]

Bubbles used telekinesis on her remaining sai and used it to slash out the wiring on the left side of Champion but missed the right side of his neck.

[I played Ace for Champion to soak two Wounds leaving him with two Wounds. I turned five of my GM Bennies into five cards for this fight. I'll probably do the same for the finale because it was fun. Meanwhile, Chessie played Read the Enemy + a Bennie for +5 attack and damage, David played Inspiration. She made called shots at the neck for a -12 to hit with Champion's Super Sonic Speed, but ended up being -5 with the boosts. ]

The Blood King fired on Champion from behind but he dodged it as if he heard it coming rather than saw it. Wheeljack noticed after the cloud of dust had disappeared, Dr. Destruction lay in the middle of the crater. But his mask had been destroyed and he saw the face of King Meros, the Aquarian. He decided to grab him and put him inside the shuttle. Ruin observed it was King Meros and stole the Crown of Atlantis from him after activating his stealth suit's invisibility.

The Junkyard Dog and her cyber dogs continued to move towards Champion. She activated a yellow car and had it throw the police car at Champion. It missed and took out a chunk of the nearby skyscraper instead.

Champion gave Bubbles a savage uppercut that hit her into the skyscraper's third floor. He then used his laser eyes to destroy the roof of the building she was in, burying her in rubble.

[Chessie used her last Bennie and Brace for Attack to survive this with three wounds and unconscious. She drew 6 on the Defeat Table so didn't suffer an injury. I then played Never Knew I Had it in Me for Champion + a Bennie.]

Champion used his focus to try and break The Blood King with a powerful punch. He didn't harm the walker, but the force of his knockback caused the cockpit of the shuttle to start to compress with an unconscious Aquarian inside.

Dr. Aden moved towards Champion. He hoped he could do something about the right wiring on his neck but couldn't move fast enough to get beside him in his lab coat.
Ash and Cinder unloaded their Fusion Rifles on Champion. One of them struck Champion in the back and he stumbled forward into The Blood King and then fell backward. The Junkyard Dog ran towards the fallen Champion as the world seemed to stop. Blood spurting out of Champion's back became a trickle. Dust motes that had sprung upwards from where Champion had fallen danced in the air. Then there was a bright flash of light followed by darkness...

[Bobbie played Bullseye with a Bennie to double the ranged attack damage.]

Thursday January 18, 2005
Alien Moon

When they opened their eyes, the Omegans found themselves inside a massive crater concealed by the spine of some ginormous alien creature. Dr. Destruction was there in full armor and mask restored. Shadow King also had arrived from the shadow pool. Ruin took off his visor and breathed the air of the moon and realized the Crown was gone, restored to the head of King Meros. It was as if someone had rewound time to an earlier state just before the battle with Champion had occurred.
The Omegans saw the massive form of The Outsider who looked at them on the left and somewhere else on the right before disappearing as mysteriously as he appeared. A gigantic alien skull hid a V'sori King Crab as a flying Champion looked around the moon for something to kill.

Shadow King teleported on top of The Blood King. The Junkyard Dog used her animate object power on the spine of the alien creature to create a bridge out of the crater. She used the spine to get out of the crater followed by Ash and Cinder. Dr. Destruction followed and said, "Neptune Guard to me!" before being surrounded by five Atlanteans with high tech gear. Bubbles used her rocket boots to travel to a different crater. Ruin followed slowly confused by the events that had transpired, trying to process them.

The Blood King got out of the crater and then threw the Shadow King at Champion. Shadow King unleashed six attacks by quickly teleporting in and out of the shadow pool. Champion was wounded and Shadow King teleported back on the shoulder of The Blood King.

[David played Seize the Day to go on Joker at the same time as The Blood King/Wheeljack. He followed it up with the Teamwork card + a Bennie and using Wild Attack to negate Champion's -8 to hit completely.]

Champion tried to smash Dr. Destruction a second time but missed. Then Ruin slashed him to pieces with his katana and Vibro Saw.

[Kevin played That One Issue Where plus a Bennie to gain +10 Fighting to overcome the -8 to hit Champion.]

Dr. Destruction and his Neptune Guard tried to repair Champion. Was there something human left inside of Earth's champion?

The Junkyard Dog saw what was happening and in a fury used the alien spine to puncture Champion's neck to deliver a finishing move. But she forgot to move her cyber dog off the spine bridge first and it went hurling into space.

At this moment, the V'sori King Crab revealed itself and unloaded on The Blood King with all its weapons. But The Blood King dodged or absorbed all the punishment from its heavy lasers.

The Junkyard Dog brought out two can openers and tried to cut open the V'sori King Crab. Unsurprisingly, the thick armor of the King Crab wasn't affected.

[Bobbie played Hidden Stash and a Bennie for this.]

Bubbles ran at the skull and used her V'sori Saw to slash open an eye socket, perhaps erroneously thinking the skull needed to be destroyed for them to win due to the cryptic actions of The Outsider.
The Blood King grabbed the V'sori King Crab and flipped it. This crushed the Junkyard Dog and she lost her right leg.

[Randall played Mechanical Malfunction to make the V'sori King Crab's engines malfunction, making it easier to flip it.]

Ruin activated his trigger earthquake ability and created a Moonquake. This killed the V'sori and K'tharens inside the King Crab, the Neptune Guard, the Junkyard Dog's cyber dog, and knocked out Bubbles and the Junkyard Dog. The Blood King and Wheeljack survived while the Shadow King used his teleport to get away with Dr. Destruction into the shadow pool and Ruin activated a warp shunt to escape.
As the alien moon shook apart, a blinding flash of light appeared for a second time and then darkness...

[Kevin rolled a d6, then added extra effort as a d6, and played Focus, Focus with a Bennie to roll another d6. When that failed he activated his Golden Bennie to reroll all of them and the final d6 got him a 6. So he activated a Moonquake. The Moonquake shook the alien moon apart, doing 52 damage to everything.]

Thursday January 18, 2005
Junkyard, Southpoint, Star City

As they opened their eyes, they saw The Outsider in human size. He asked them, "Fight or Defend." The Omegans chose to fight.
Shadow King gave King Meros, the Aquarian, to the Dark Goddess of Atlantis and she extended her tendrils to make him part of the circle.

[The Dark Goddess has done this to all of the group except the Junkyard Dog, slowly changing the group to Atlanteans as Shadow King has kidnapped them and brought them to the pool. She was truly awakened when Baron de Villain sacrificed an Atlantean on her altar to become a True Atlantean instead of a hybrid. It was also part of the origin story of Shadowpool now Shadow King, as her right hand in trying to restore Atlantis, but to her dark vision for the future of an Atlantean Empire. The shadowpool was where Shadow King returned to hydrate and was a place that can be teleported to and from at will. With David being an unpredictable player it is a great way to get him into the action without too much explanation as well. Setsuna's death happened when she refused conversion and instead took on a competing fire god's essence in an attempt at revenge.]

The Shadow King returned from the shadow pool with the Aquarian who dropped Dr. Destruction's gear saying, "Dr. Destruction is dead now. It is up to you to save Earth." Wheeljack grabbed Dr. Destruction's broken power armor and his computer. His helmet was gone, destroyed completely by Champion and his rifle lost when he dropped it as he fell unconscious. Ruin still wore The Crown of Atlantis showing that time had been moved back to a state near where they left. The Junkyard Dog suddenly grew a new right leg. The Outsider used his power to heal everyone to full strength and sent the Omegans but not Aquarian to fight the V'sori Overmind directly.
The Crown of Atlantis fell from Ruin's head and King Meros picked up his crown once again. The Outsider puzzled said, "It would seem this relic has a mind of its own. Your Atlantean Gods may have a hand in this. Perhaps the one called Ruin's own relic wished a competing relic for his attention gone. Or it is the cosmic balance. They took your devices and the balance gave you back the crown. So be it. The fate of your Earth and the V'sori Empire is in their hands now and your fate as always is to pick up the pieces that remain in their wake."

[Bobbie used her advance on New Power Points to gain Extra Limb (leg), a trick Kevin used previously to no sell a Major Leg Injury.]

[End of Session]

XP: 6 (3 x 2 plot points completed). Minimum XP = Heroic (70)

Loot: Dr. Destruction's Armor (+3 Armor, All, Heavy Armor), Dr. Destruction's Computer (Broadcast)

Maps

Scene 1 uses DramaScape's Star Map Print on Demand map. Scene 2 uses DramaScape's Modern Ruins 5 for the fight with Champion. Modern Ruins 5 is particularly good for Plot Point Nine because of the crater in the middle of the map, the presence of many vehicles and buildings to throw and smash, and enough space for the shuttle to land. Scene 3 uses DramaScape's Lunar Battlemap Print on Demand map. This map is really good for Plot Point Ten as a moonscape full of craters. I lucked out and found a cool skull cleaning to put on the map too.

Miniatures

Figures and vehicles include those from HeroClix by WizKids and Necessary Evil Figure Flats by Pinnacle Entertainment Group. Automobiles are from the FREE Distressed Modern Vehicles on the PEG website (Website-->Store-->Savage Worlds-->Look in GM section on the right to download and grab the FREE Modern Vehicles ones too!). Fighter used from DramaScape's The Partisan Passenger Version for the V'sori Manta.
